Blessing of the St. Rose Philippine Duchesne Statue

Isabel Singletary
On the morning of January 30th, a statue of Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne was unveiled to the Carrollton community and blessed in a beautiful ceremony led by Father Robert Vallee. In an alcove on the Duchesne campus, Philippine sits in contemplation at the center of the Rose Philippine Duchesne Prayer Garden. Her serene countenance and prayerful pose inspire all who visit as she holds her profession cross over her heart.

The generous gift of the Settembrino family, this likeness of Philippine serves as an encouragement to our community to follow her example of such personal generosity, gratitude, and deep spirituality that she transcended the boundaries of her human failings and errors, never allowing herself to be distracted from her calling to make God’s love known in the Americas.

The morning event was attended by students and parents from all grades, faculty, staff, and Board members. Prayers and invocations were followed by a short re-enactment tableau of Philippine, the pioneer children and Potawatomi she dedicated her life to. The exquisite music of the violin filled the air of a cloudless, perfect morning. If you did not have the chance to attend, you can watch the entire blessing here.
