On May 9, Montessori five year olds through 3rd grade enjoyed a visit from Florida native author Margaret Cardillo. Ms. Cardillo graduated from Boston College then moved to New York City, where she became Associate Editor at Hyperion Books for Children. Upon receiving the Michener Fellowship at the University of Miami MFA program in Creative Writing, she returned to Florida.
She visited us while on tour for the debut of her new children’s book, JUST BEING JACKIE, a biography of the late Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. Ms. Cardillo had shared her children’s book, JUST BEING AUDREY, about Academy Award winning actress and UNICEF ambassador, Audrey Hepburn, a few years ago.
Third grader Aila Lopez earned the privilege of introducing the author by writing and illustrating her thoughts on what qualities it takes to be a good first lady and what makes you think that? The girls asked some excellent questions and learned more about one of our most notable first ladies.
