Varsity Soccer Advances to District Final!

The varsity soccer team advances to the FHSAA Class 2A District 16 Championship!  This is an outstanding accomplishment as Carrollton is part of one of the most competitive districts in the area and despite the strong program, advancing beyond district play seemed nearly impossible without solid play from the Cyclones.  This year, the Cyclones banded together with the one common goal to make it to the district finals and they have done it!  By playing in the finals, Carrollton automatically advances to the Regional Tournament.  The last time the Cyclones played in the district final game was in 2004 where they finished in first place.

The Cyclones have played exceptionally well throughout the district tournament, defeating Archbishop Coleman Carroll 10-0 in the quarterfinals and Westminster Christian 4-0 in the semifinals.  The game against the Westminster Warriors was surrounded with both tension and excitement as the Cyclones knew that the winner moves on to regionals.  During the regular season, the Cyclones beat the Warriors 2-1, so they knew this was going to be a tough match.  At the end of 80 minutes, Carrollton came away with the much desired victory of 4-0 with Michelle Diaz-Silveira ’17 scoring two goals and Isabella Kang ’16 scoring one goal alongside Sarah Berenguer ’18 who also scored one goal.  Isabella Kang ’16 also had two assists followed by Michelle Diaz-Silveira ’17 with one assist.  Goalkeeper Olivia Garcia-Velez ’16 had a great performance and came away with a shutout.

Be sure to come cheer on the Cyclones as they take on the Gulliver Raiders for the fight to be district champions today at Gulliver Preparatory School at 3:30 pm!
