Sacred Heart Spirituality Center

About the Center

Founded in 2025, the Sacred Heart Spirituality Center, located on the Mater Campus at Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, is a collaborative project of the Society of the Sacred Heart and Carrollton.

It is truly a collaborative venture in every sense of the word. The Sacred Heart Spirituality Center would like to express our gratitude to Sr. Suzanne Cooke, RSCJ and her Provincial Council for their on-going support of this project. At Carrollton, Board Chair Angel Gallinal P'15, President Patrick J. Coyle and Head of School Heather Gillingham-Rivas '94, and the entire community has warmly welcomed and given their full support to this endeavor. Many of us hope that this will be the first of many similar Sacred Heart Spirituality Centers at some of the 24 other Sacred Heart schools around the US and Canada Province.

Our Target Audiences

The Sacred Heart Spirituality Center offers programs for Carrollton’s adult communities including board members, administration, faculty, staff, alumnae, current and past parents, friends of Carrollton, the Miami Catholic and Christian community and beyond.

Meet the Director

Jennie Weiss Block

Jennie Weiss Block has enjoyed a life-long relationship with the Religious of the Sacred Heart to whom she owes her spiritual formation. Already known to many in the Carrollton community, she and her family have been part of Carrollton for over fifty years. Early in her career, Dr. Block worked for two Carrollton Heads of School, Sr. Katherine Baxter, RSCJ, and Sr. Ann Taylor, RSCJ; both of whom are significant mentors in her life. Jennie has been a Carrollton trustee, a teacher and parent, and is currently a grandparent and great aunt to four students in the school. She is particularly proud that her son Christopher Barat is named after St. Madeleine Sophie Barat.

Only try to be generous and faithful; the Holy Spirit will do her work in you.
St. Madeleine Sophie Barat

Purpose

The Sacred Heart Spirituality Center has two, interrelated purposes.

First, to systematically share and pass on our rich and beautiful Sacred Heart charism, history and traditions to the current and next generation.

Second, to invite men and women to enter more fully into the mystery of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the opportunity to grow in wisdom and grace by deepening their interior lives through prayer and study.   In a variety of ways, we will share the story of what God has done for us in Christ, and we will seek to follow in the footsteps of St. Madeleine Sophie and St. Rose Philippine.

Grounded in the Catholic tradition and the charism of the Society of the Sacred Heart, the Sacred Heart Spirituality Center is a peaceful and welcoming space intentionally designed to accompany women and men who desire to grow in all aspects of the interior life. All are welcome at any stage of their spiritual journey.

Our Guiding Principles

Programs

The Sacred Heart Spirituality Center is an inclusive and supportive community where together we seek to grow in knowledge, wisdom, and grace. Through carefully curated programs and offerings, the Center provides opportunities to for all who seek God to enter more deeply into their faith, to deepen their relationship with Jesus, and to discern God’s will and the movement of the Spirit in their everyday lives.

During our inaugural year, the Sacred Heart Spirituality Center will pilot and offer a variety of programs for different segments of the community. We will seek input from the community and make every effort to evaluate our efforts and to respond to the needs of the community.

Listed below are the seven programs being planned for the coming year. While each program is designed for a distinct audience, all will be theologically grounded, historically based, encourage thoughtful intellectual inquiry, be presented in an accessible manner, and connect meaningfully to daily life.
