2024-2025 Barat Scholars Announced

Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart is proud to announce that Valentina Martinez-Fraga ’29 and Anna Tang ’29 have been awarded the prestigious Barat Scholarship, an honor recognizing two outstanding Grade 8 students each year who exemplify the values and qualities of a true Barat Scholar.

Mater in the House of Saint John by Pauline Perdrau, RSCJ

Most members of the Sacred Heart community know the beloved story of Mater Admirabilis. But what you might not know is that the Mater we revere is only the first Mater that Pauline Perdrau, RSCJ painted at the age of 19. Over the course of her life, she would paint eight more. The last one, completed 40 years later when Pauline was 60 years old, reveals something deeply beautiful: as Pauline aged, so did Mary.

In a special ceremony this week, Miami’s Mayor, Francis Suarez, presented official recognition to Carrollton’s own Adriana Ferreira de Melo '28, the Pan-American fencing champion, alongside Yannick Borel and Alexandra Louis-Maria, Olympic silver medalists, for their outstanding achievements and contributions to fencing.

Holocaust Survivor Judy Rodan Shares Powerful Story with Upper School Students

Today, the Upper School welcomed back Holocaust survivor Judy Rodan for another moving presentation. In her first visit in May, Rodan shared how she was the only member of her family to survive the Holocaust, thanks to the courageous efforts of the Sacred Coeur Convent in Budapest. This time, she offered deeper insight into her life at the convent.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Raphael Bastian SH‘83, P‘16, ‘18, Carrollton’s Chair of the Board of Trustees. Raphael passed away on April 23, after a brief illness.

Freshmen students enrolled in Honors Geometry classes taught by Mrs. MaryAnne Hejna collaborated with their student coaches in Mrs. Thais de Leon-Perez’s ‘91 AT Stem Entrepreneurship class to devise innovative architectural concepts. These building designs had the flexibility to be situated anywhere in downtown Miami and were required to incorporate sustainable and eco-friendly elements.

During the six-week program, Breakthrough Scholars prepared for their upcoming school year with engaging classes in all core subjects. When they weren't in academic spaces, scholars were having a Breakalicious time during special events and in their elective classes, such as basketball and yoga.
