This summer, Carrollton students embarked on unforgettable immersion trips across Spain, France, and Taiwan, each journey offering a unique blend of cultural discovery, Sacred Heart connection, and meaningful experiences that will last a lifetime.
In Spain, students spent a week immersed in the language and culture, earning certificates for their dedication and hard work. Their adventure was filled with vibrant experiences, from cooking paella and dancing flamenco to exploring some of Spain’s most iconic landmarks. Highlights included visits to El Escorial, Segovia’s Roman aqueduct, Toledo’s breathtaking cathedral, and the Prado Museum. They walked through El Retiro Park, toured the Royal Palace, and ended the week with dinner and a night at El Rey León.
Meanwhile, in France, students connected with their French pen pals, attended classes at Paris Notre-Dame de France, and shared a moving encounter with Sister Yasuko Taguchi, RSCJ, at the shrine of our Foundress at St. François-Xavier Church. In Joigny, they walked in the footsteps of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, visiting her childhood home and favorite vineyard. Singing the Cœur de Jésus at her shrine and at Sophie’s House created powerful memories and united them with generations of Sacred Heart students around the world.
The Taipei Immersion Trip began with a warm welcome from the principal of Sacred Heart School in Taipei. Students learned about the arrival of the Sacred Heart mission in Asia and visited a moving art exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of St. Madeleine Sophie’s canonization. A special Mass alongside former Carrollton students now in Taiwan was a heartwarming reunion across continents. Thoughtfully prepared gifts, including Sacred Heart cookies with oracle bone script and meaningful souvenirs, were a beautiful expression of Sacred Heart hospitality and tradition.
Each journey reminded our students of the global reach of the Sacred Heart family and deepened their understanding of language, culture, and mission. What a remarkable testament to our shared values and the joy of learning beyond borders!
