Alexandra “Coco” Kolaya ’27 Awarded the Raphael Maria Bastian Memorial Scholarship

Named in honor of Raphael Maria Bastian SH’83, P’16, P’18, beloved Sacred Heart alumna, past parent, and former Chair of Carrollton’s Board of Trustees, this scholarship recognizes a rising Grade 12 student who exemplifies the values Raphael lived so fully: a deep and active faith, a commitment to intellectual excellence, leadership in service of others, and a genuine dedication to personal growth within a strong and supportive community.

In her scholarship essay, Coco reflects on the profound impact of her Sacred Heart education, beginning with a quote from St. Madeleine Sophie Barat: “Your example, more than your words, will be an eloquent lesson to the world.” She shares how her fourteen years at Carrollton have shaped not only her academic life, but also her sense of purpose, her faith, and her understanding of what it means to lead with compassion.

Coco’s dedication to building community is evident in the many ways she has served Carrollton, including her role as a Student Ambassador since eighth grade, her contributions to school publications, and her leadership as President-elect of Model United Nations.
