  • Upper School

This weekend, 28 Carrollton students headed to Ann Arbor for the University of Michigan National Debate Tournament. With more than 400 high school debaters from 18 states and Canada, the competition was packed — and Carrollton held its own, advancing teams in every division.

Varsity Division

Our Varsity teams had a strong run, with Membiela–Gomez-Peralta and Roos–Giampetruzzi both making it to the Double-Octafinals.

JV Division

In JV, Valdes–Klotz reached the Quarterfinals. Both debaters also earned top speaker awards: Klotz took 3rd, and Valdes earned 1st in their division.

Novice Division

Our Novice debaters also had a standout weekend.

  • Bracamontes–Wick advanced to the Double-Octafinals

  • Eaton–Yu reached the Octafinals

  • Martinez-Fraga–Roos and Mikityansky–Sundblad made it to the Quarterfinals

Speaker awards went to Alexa Roos (18th), Valentina Martinez-Fraga (11th), and Alessandra Yu (2nd) in their division.

Traveling with such a big group is no small task, and this weekend wouldn’t have been possible without the help of several generous alumnae. Joana Arvanitis ’21, Shannon Feerick-Hillenbrand ’22, and Daniella Roos ’24 joined the trip, offering judging, coaching, and a great example of leadership for our debaters.

Congratulations to all our students for an amazing showing!
