First Friday Formation - A Sacred Heart Tradition at Carrollton

First Friday Formation - A Sacred Heart Tradition at Carrollton

Carrollton began its first First Friday Formation of the year with a Mass celebrated by our School Chaplain, Fr. Vallee, and coordinated by Ms. Sara Andreu, Director of Formation to Mission.

The tradition of First Friday devotion began in the Church as a way to honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Inspired by this practice, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, our foundress, wove First Friday prayer into the rhythm of life at Sacred Heart schools around the world. At Carrollton, we continue this legacy by gathering on select First Fridays throughout the academic year for chapel Mass beneath the historic Duchesne Oak, each focused on a particular spiritual theme.

This month’s theme, Educating All of God’s Children for the Sacraments, highlighted the shared responsibility of nurturing children in their faith. As Fr. Vallee reminded us, it is not the school alone that prepares children for the Sacraments. Their parents, as their first teachers, play a vital role in shaping their faith.

Fr. Vallee also emphasized that although Carrollton is a Catholic school, Carrollton does not require students to have received their Sacraments and warmly welcomes families of all faith traditions. This openness reflects St. Madeleine Sophie’s mission: to educate every young woman entrusted to her care and, if possible, to inspire in her a love for Jesus - the ultimate goal.

We invite you to save the dates for this year’s upcoming First Friday Formation Masses:

  • December 5, 2025
  • March 6, 2026
  • May 1, 2026

Together, we carry forward this Sacred Heart tradition, deepening our prayer and strengthening the spiritual foundation of our community.
