First Friday Formation with Fr. Vallee and Ms. Andreu reminds us of the First Friday Devotion, widely practiced in the Catholic Church, which focuses on the physical Heart as the symbol of Christ’s redemptive love.
This devotion was designated by Jesus himself in 1673 in his revelations to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, a French Roman Catholic Visitation nun and mystic. In her visions, Jesus asked that devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus be spread among the faithful. You might be asking yourself, "Why do we practice this at Carrollton?"
Originating in the seventeenth century, the First Friday Devotion found an early practitioner in St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, who deeply believed that God’s love flows through the compassionate heart of Jesus into the world, available to us each day as we open our hearts to His grace. Like St. Margaret Mary, St. Rose Philippine Duchesne was also a Visitation nun before joining St. Madeleine Sophie in the Society of the Sacred Heart, further spreading devotion to the Sacred Heart.
Reflecting on the meaning of the Sacred Heart in our lives is an inherent practice in the Society, and we are grateful to Father Vallee and Ms. Andreu for facilitating this long-standing tradition in our school community.
We invite you to join us for this month's First Friday Formation on September 6, where we will center ourselves on Encountering the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. As you prepare for this event, take some time to ponder how every problem you face could be solved by Jesus’ presence in the Tabernacle. Invite Him to participate in the events of your life, allowing His love to guide you through each challenge.
Save the date for the First Friday Formations that will take place over the academic year. Practicing this cherished Catholic devotion allows us to celebrate Mass and hear Father Vallee speak on various spiritual topics relevant to us today.
