This week, our Carrollton community was deeply enriched by the presence of Sr. Carolyn Osiek, RSCJ, SH’58, whose scholarship and generosity of spirit invited us into a profound encounter with the heart and mission of the Society of the Sacred Heart.

Following her role as a panelist in the inaugural Ann Taylor, RSCJ Lecture Series, Sr. Osiek remained in Miami to share her expertise on the more than 14,000 recorded letters written by St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, a remarkable body of writing that continues to shape Sacred Heart education and spirituality today.

Parents, alumnae, and board members gathered for Lunch and Letters, hosted by the Sacred Heart Spirituality Center, where Sr. Osiek offered historical context and theological insight into these letters, illuminating Sophie’s voice as that of a woman deeply attuned to God, to relationships, and to the needs of the world.

The reflection continued the following day during the faculty and staff retreat, where Sr. Osiek invited educators into a deeper meditation on Sophie’s letters. Her presentation challenged and inspired faculty and staff to see their daily work as part of the same mission entrusted to Sophie more than two centuries ago: to educate through love, faith, and intellectual depth.

We are profoundly grateful to Carolyn Osiek for sharing her wisdom, scholarship, and prayerful insight with our community. Her time with us served as a powerful reminder that the mission of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat continues to unfold, letter by letter, through the lives of those who carry it forward today.
