Carrollton's Health and Wellness department coordinated a three-day Senior Seminar Series to help the Class of 2024 enter college prepared for challenges they might face as adults. The series gave them the knowledge to make well-informed decisions and made their experience much smoother!
The first day of the seminar focused on Health, Wellness and Self-Care. Thank you to Dr. Dibe Martin, parent of an alumna from the Class of 2020, and our Health and Wellness Department staff, Mrs. Marta Martinez, Ms. Patty Montero, Nurse Emily Fullana, and Nurse Hayley Coyle. Carla Dueñas, MS, RDN, presented on Nutrition Tips: Finding Healthy Choices, giving them pointers on foods they can buy and meals they could cook.
On day two of the seminar, Gilliane Vital-Herne, mother of Gaby Cannavo '24, offered her insight on Financial Literacy, followed by a presentation on Self-Defense.
Flavia Tomasello from The Antonio Tsialas Leadership Foundation presented on day three about Saying No to Hazing and Compassionate Leadership. She guided them on ways to make friends and be a part of their college communities safely and respectfully. Young alumnae Ava Hornbacher, Natalia Leach, Valentine Villegas, Mariana Matos, Katia Alonso, and Marina Martinez-Cid followed with a discussion on Adjusting to College, where they shared their insight and experiences after completing their first year of college.
Lastly, our Technology Department showed the seniors how to create LinkedIn accounts and some basic guidelines for using and building their professional profiles. They then gave the students an opportunity to take headshots for their profiles.
Thank you to the alums, parents, faculty, and other members of our community who helped make this seminar possible, especially to Goal V parent representatives Monica Taracido and Katrina Gonzalez.
